Learning Challenges are the various types of misconceptions students might face in the learning process. The beginning of the diagnostic process usually involves checking for Starting Point Learning Challenges, and then moving on to diagnosing more content and student specific types of LC’s.
The analogy to the medical field is that these learning challenges are the “diseases”: a doctor is expected to diagnose whether a patient has the disease and then provide a treatment plan, just like a teacher would diagnose whether the student has a particular Learning Challenge, and then devise a study plan or lesson accordingly. Examples include Randomitis, Memorizitis, Compartmentalization (Type 1 and 2), Applicatosis, and many more! Visit the Home Page for a full alphabetical list.
